Fringe Woven Cowboy Hat

★★★★★4.8/5· thousands of reviews

We designed this hat for those sun-soaked festival days and weekends when ordinary just won’t do. The natural raffia straw brings that effortlessly cool texture you can’t fake, while the fringe trim swaying along the brim adds movement and a little bit of edge.

Our team spent months perfecting the crown shape—high enough to make a statement but not so tall it feels costume-y. The adjustable inner drawstring lets you customize the fit, so it stays put whether you’re dancing in the crowd or just lounging poolside. This isn’t a one-season accessory. The tightly woven straw holds its shape year after year, and the fringe detail never goes out of style.

  • Natural raffia straw construction with breathable open weave
  • Fringe trim detail around 3.5-inch brim
  • Adjustable internal drawstring for custom fit
  • High-profile crown at 4.25 inches
  • One size fits most (fits head circumferences 21.5–23 inches)

Raffia straw & fringe construction

Raffia straw & fringe construction

We chose natural raffia for this cowboy hat because it strikes the perfect balance between durability and breathability. The fibers are hand-split and woven into a tight lattice that blocks UV rays while still letting air flow through on hot days.

The fringe isn’t just decorative—it’s stitched directly into the brim’s edge with reinforced thread so it won’t fray or fall off after a season of wear. Each strand is cut to a precise 2.5-inch length and heat-sealed at the tip. The crown is shaped over wooden hat blocks and steam-set, which is why it bounces back to its original silhouette even after being packed in a suitcase.

Sizing and fit details

Sizing and fit details

This is a one-size design that fits head circumferences from 21.5 to 23 inches—about 95% of adult women. Inside the crown you’ll find a cotton drawstring cord threaded through a channel. Pull the cord to tighten the fit around your head, then tie it off with a simple bow.

The inner band is unlined raw raffia, which some customers prefer because it’s cooler against the skin. If you find it scratchy, a silk scarf tied around the inside does the trick. The brim measures 3.5 inches front to back and doesn’t curl or droop—we’ve reinforced it with a hidden wire along the outer edge.

Care and storage tips

Care and storage tips

Spot clean the melrose and market fringe woven cowboy hat with a damp cloth and mild soap—never submerge it or toss it in the wash. If the straw gets dusty, use a soft-bristle brush (an old toothbrush works) to sweep out the crevices between the weave.

Store it upside down on its crown or hang it on a wide hook so the brim doesn’t flatten. Avoid stacking anything on top. If the hat loses its shape, steam it lightly over a kettle spout and reshape by hand while the fibers are warm and pliable. Let it air-dry completely before wearing.

Perfect festival hat
I wore this to Coachella and got compliments all weekend. The fringe is so fun and it actually stayed on my head even when it got windy. Way better quality than the cheap ones I’ve bought before.

Love the adjustable fit
I have a smaller head and most hats slide around, but the drawstring inside this one is genius. I tightened it up and it stayed put all day at the beach. The straw is thick and doesn’t feel flimsy.

Runs a little big but fixable
The hat itself is gorgeous—love the natural color and the fringe detail. It was a bit loose on me at first, but once I adjusted the cord it fit perfectly. Just FYI if you have a really small head, you might need to tie it pretty tight.

High quality and lightweight
I was worried it would feel heavy or stiff, but it’s actually super lightweight and breathable. I wore it on a hike in Arizona and my head never got sweaty. The fringe is stitched on really well—no loose threads.

Packs flat in my suitcase
I stuffed the crown with a few shirts and packed it in my carry-on for a Mexico trip. When I got there, I just steamed it a little and it looked brand new. Super impressed with how well it travels.

The fringe is everything
I bought this specifically for the fringe and it did not disappoint. It moves when I walk and looks amazing in photos. I’ve gotten so many questions about where I got it. Definitely recommend.

Questions about the Fringe Woven Cowboy Hat

The fringe is stitched directly into the brim with reinforced thread and heat-sealed at each tip, so it’s built to last. We’ve tested the hat through months of regular wear and the fringe stays intact. If a strand does come loose, a quick dab of clear fabric glue will reattach it.

Raffia straw is naturally water-resistant, so light rain or splashes won’t ruin it. If the hat gets fully soaked, let it air-dry upside down on its crown and reshape it by hand while it’s still slightly damp. We don’t recommend submerging it or wearing it in heavy downpours.

Inside the crown there’s a cotton drawstring threaded through a channel. Pull both ends of the cord to tighten the fit around your head, then tie it off with a bow or knot. The adjustable range fits head circumferences from 21.5 to 23 inches.

Right now we offer this style in natural raffia only. The neutral tone pairs with almost any outfit and won’t fade in the sun. We’re considering adding a black version later this year based on customer requests.

The interior is unlined raw raffia with a cotton drawstring. Some customers find it perfectly comfortable, while others prefer to tie a silk scarf around the inside for a softer feel against the forehead. There’s no foam padding, which keeps the hat lightweight and breathable.

Yes. The brim has a hidden wire along the edge that you can gently bend back into place. For deeper reshaping, steam the hat lightly over a kettle spout and mold it by hand while the fibers are warm. Let it air-dry completely before wearing.

Raffia is a natural palm fiber that’s three times stronger than paper straw and naturally water-resistant. Paper straw hats are lighter and cheaper, but they lose their shape when exposed to moisture. Raffia holds up better over time and maintains its structure even after being packed or worn in humid conditions.
